ROBITIC PROSTATECTOMY - LAPAROSCOPIC WITH ROBOTIC ASSISTANCE

Countdown to Surgery
If you are currently awaiting a robotic prostatectomy, it is essential for your own safety and for the success of your surgery that you carefully read these instructions from Winter Park Urology Associates.

  6-8 Weeks Prior To Surgery
Start Exercising! 30-60 minutes of aerobic exercise per day is recommended. Do not
start bicycling. It puts too much pressure on the prostate area. Lift weights three times a week. Any improvement in your physical condition prior to surgery will directly translate into improved results after surgery and a more rapid recovery.

  1-2 Weeks Prior To Surgery

You must schedule preoperative tests, which generally consist of a chest x-ray, routine blood testing and an ECG (electrocardiogram, an electrical map of your heart that can reveal and diagnose electro-physiological problems with your heart). These tests will help to ensure that we have not overlooked any serious medical problems that may complicate the surgery.

  Start Kegel Exercises Now!
Kegel exercise strengthens the pelvic floor muscle group which are involved in stemming the flow of urine. By building up these muscles now, you will speed up your return to continence after surgery. Additionally, strengthening the pelvic floor muscles improves orgasmic function, and this will help you preserve and regain potency. In the interest of continence and potency, it is essential that you begin a consistent regimen as soon as possible and continue to maintain it faithfully after surgery.
